"Two divisions, the 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum and the 1st Infantry in Germany, have been rated C4. That's the lowest of four possible readiness grades. It means, "Unfit for service"." "No sir. Again, with all respect, I hate to disagree, but it means unfit for service based on the Pentagon's "two war" doctrine. It's based on how fast these divisions would be able to extract themselves from their peacekeeping mission, retrain on home bases, and ship off to a second of two, full-scale Gulf-War-sized conflicts. There are also some both inside and outside the Pentagon who question whether the C4 ratings might not be a political maneuver on the part of the DOD to help Republican allies in Congress secure more defense money."

“Oh hello, Captain Commander~ I didn’t expect to see you here~” Rangiku swooned with a flirty smile and a coy smirk, watching the Shinigami man stride into the small izakaya she slipped away to for her evening away from work. She smirked, scooting to the side and patting the spot beside her. “You look like you could use a drink—come on, join me~ plenty of sake to go around~”

"I had a feeling that I would find you here, Rangiku." Kazuo would have used her rank and surename to address the 10th Division Lieutenant. But after going through the mountain of paperwork...
"After the day I've had?" The Captain-General would drop his stern demeanor, and smile softly. Something he rarely ever did since the funeral for the former Captain-General. He seated himself next to the attractive strawberry blonde.

I need you
A/n: Yay! My first ever finished piece of writing!! I apologize in advance for the quality, I'm still learning how to do this and English is not even my first language. Anyway, enjoy!
Summary: reader has been in the 10th division for the longest time and has developed feelings for capt. Hitsugaya, but she doesn't think it's reciprocated.
Day after day, your affection and unspoken feelings grew heavier as weights on your shoulders. And as much as you loved it, he was still a distant person with frosted feelings. It was his way of being. It started getting tiring. It was beginning to feel like chasing after a train already in movement. Seemingly impossible to catch.
You and the captain of the 10th division were close. Between you two there was a strong bond that could only be explained by all the things you've been through. Having people you love get hurt, being misunderstood or judged in your lifes, fighting and going through hell to protect the ones you care about, scarring your hearts in the process... All these things made you able to understand eachother the way the tall, cold mountains understand the scattered, mellow clouds.
Some time back, you realized you had very strong feelings for him and you worked on subtly making them known. Not only have you been at his side in most battles, but in life in general. Helping him with paperwork, bringing him some snacks when he spent late nights in the 10th division's office or making him some tea when the rainy days made him melancholic. All of these were your way of showing him how much you want to be the one who takes care of him when nobody seems to do so. As days passed, your heart gathered more and more space only for him. And the late evenings of paperwork shifted to deep night hours spent in the office talking about weights of each of your souls, in a manner that other people wouldn't understand. The outsiders of your conversations would think you were only speaking in metaphors, but that was the beautiful way you two got to see through each other's words. Your soul was aching to caress his. Your heart was melting at the sound of his voice and the sight of his eyes. But your mind would always remind you about being appropriate, calling him by rank and giving him the space he needed. Even so... You loved him. You loved Toushirou. And you loved his personality. That cold demeanor with his words full of depth. And his way of frowning, always looking deeply beyond one's speech, as if trying to find the meaning behind their actions.
Even though you knew he cared about you, you couldn't be sure of the extend of his feelings. And so, after a while, you start thinking that perhaps, his affection towards you doesn't reach the point of the one you carry towards him. Maybe it's not the same kind of love, if it even gets to be called that. So in an attempt to release some of the stress in your mind, you turn to Rangiku, who gladly listens to you in the office, while you tell her all you feel. And as she asks you what are you going to do about it, you find yourself thinking about one solution. Because you knew nobody could ever reform the way he shaped your heart, you hesitate a bit before speaking. "You know, captain Hitsugaya will always be my first love. He will come in the first place, before anyone... But maybe, I can find someone and at least move on..."
Little did you know, that while you were talking about maybe asking to be departed in a mission for a while, the captain was right beside the door. With the intention of looking for Matsumoto, he stoped at hearing his name coming from the inside and has been listening from the start. Your conversation hit him like a brick, leaving a shocked, almost alarmed expression on his face. This kind of love... He never considered it. He never thought about the name of the feelings he has for you up until that point. But now that he does, he realizes. If you leave, not only will there be an empty place in his heart. But there will also be nobody who could ever fill it back. He can't let you leave. He has to have you in his life, beside him. He kind of...loves you.
After getting a note from him to meet him back at the office later that night, you hurry there. It was pouring rain. Your mind was all over the place. You two never had a planned meeting, excluding the official ones, where multiple people attended. You ask yourself if it was a coincidence or if Rangiku spoke up behind your back. You're thinking about the worst possible scenarios that could happen. The stress is making your fingers fidgety, and you start playing with the material of your clothes as you get closer.
When you finally reach the door, you take a deep breath before opening it and entering. And there he is. Initially with his back turned to you, leaning his weight on his right hand in a fist, on a table. You only get a glimpse of that view but you find it so beautiful that you wished you could have seen in more than just a second. When he turns around, you stop. His eyes look straight into yours, piercing your heart with the intensity of his gaze. He softly, almost whispering, let's out a "hi, y/n." He looks at your clothes and states "you're soaked".
To that, you just look at him and barely open your mouth to say "I didn't take an umbrella... "
The next couple of minutes were filled by silence. That, and the never-ending sensation that what was about to happen was going to be forever stamped inside your chest. Anxiety was flowing through your veins. Finally he talks.
"Do you want to be departed some place else?"
You look at him in disbelief. What? How...?
"..Matsumoto.. ", you say as anger starts creeping up the back of your neck.
Toushirou cuts you off. "No. Not this time. I happened to overhear you."
Now there's embarrassment that's showing through your cheeks and ears. You look down and start asking yourself how much did he hear and where was this going. After hearing a serious, aggravated "well?" ,you look back to him to see his frowned face staring at you.
"I'm... Not sure yet. I might." You say, not ready yet to make that decision.
His frown deepens as he sinks into thinking. Looking as if he debates whether to say something or not, he opens and closes his mouth a few times. Finally, after closing his eyes to take a deep breath, he starts walking towards you as he speaks, taking a step forward with every word.
"Look. I heard it...I know."
He takes one more step so close in front of you, that you're centimetres apart now, not breaking the visual contact for a second.
"And I... Don't want you to move on"
And he softly places his left hand on your cheek, barely touching it, to caress your skin. You slightly part your lips and widen your eyes from the surprise and the feeling of his fingers on you sends hot waves through your entire body. Breathing feels like a hard task in this moment and all your thoughts are gone. All there is, is just the feeling of barely feeling his hand and your body longing for more of his touch. He slowly pushes one step further. His body is now slightly touching yours and his right hand rises to your back. He leans in, and gently closes the gap between his lips and yours. Your whole body tingles, and you put your hands around his neck, pulling him in a little more. The delicate way he kisses you, like he's worried you'll shatter like glass if he comes too close, is making you want more of it. He takes his left hand away from your face with the right one grabs your back tighter, pulling you in, without breaking the softness of the kiss. Soon, you find out he used his left for support, and his right hand to hold you tight while he slowly takes one step further, pushing on you with his body, and leaning your back over the couch. He breaks the kiss for a second, while he holds you, to look at you. The sensation lingers on your lips for a moment, and you look at him too. And even though he has a serious and determined face, with his signature frown, his eyes are so soft looking at you like you were the meaning of life, and the light from the stars. You could hear hardly distinguish his faint, shaky breath from your own.
His gaze shifts into one of almost worry as he opens his mouth only to whisper barely audible "I need you."
You take this moment to whisper to him "now I know".
Like a weight has dropped off his shoulders, he sighs, relief making it's way on his face, his gaze softening. He smiles at you. Then, almost as a thought has just crossed his mind, he furrows his eyebrows, and opens his mouth. But you already knew what his worry was.
"We can take it slow for now." You say, a warm smile painted on your face. To that, Toushirou just smiles back and hugs you.
You two end up falling asleep on the couch, cuddling. You were right. What happened tonight was going to be forever stamped on your heart.
Phew! That was all for now! Thanks for reading. And big thank you to @seireiteihellbutterfly for helping me learn my way around these things ❤

The Battle of Mogadishu
October 3 to 4, 1993
"Black Hawk Down"
----------------------------------------
The Battle of Mogadishu is an infamous battle between US Task Force Ranger and the Somali Militia. The operation that led to the engagement was supposed to be a quick one, with the objective of capturing prominent lieutenants of the local warlord, Aidid.
However, due to a series of events, the operation quickly brokedown and an intense battle occured, lasting till the next day. During the battle, three Black Hawk helicopters were shot down, with the most notable being the two Black Hawks that crashed in hostile territory. Attempts to secure the crash site of the first helicopter led to many casulaties among the Ranger and Delta Force operators taking part in the mission.
Eventually, the Rangers and Delta Force operators would be extracted out of the hostile zone with the help of the nearby 10th Mountain Division and UN forces.

Society of the Snow ❄️
The 96th Academy Awards are upon us, with the 2024 Oscars taking place this weekend on Sunday, 10th March 2024 · Society of the Snow has been nominated for two Oscars, for Best International Feature Film, Not in the English Language as well as the best makeup and hairstyling. Society of the Snow became the third-most-prized film in Goya history after winning 12 awards at Spain's Goya Awards and winning a European Film Award but the interest is not just for the awards but for the true story behind this film/Thriller/Adventure documentary.
Directed by Juan Antonio García Bayona, the Spanish-language film is about the 1972 plane crash that stranded dozens of people–most notably players of an Uruguayan rugby team–on a glacier in the Andes. But it was Pablo Vierci’s Society of the Snow, a non-fiction account of the disaster, published in 2008 and made with the full collaboration of the survivors and their families, that caught Bayona’s interest. The film is an adaptation of Pablo Vierci’s book. The cast is composed of Uruguayan and Argentine actors, most of whom are newcomers.
Tumblr media
In case you have no idea about this film, please, let me explain: The rugby world knows very little about this story, so after watching the Rugby World Cup in France last year 2023 and seeing the resilience of the Uruguayan rugby team in the World Cup, I watched the film and read books getting more and more interested in the subject. The Snow Society tells the true story of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, a plane that crashed in the Andes in 1972, leaving a rugby team and its fans hungry and stranded for 72 days. There were 45 people on the flight, 40 passengers and 5 crew members. 19 of the passengers were members of the Old Christians Club rugby team.
Tumblr media
Old Christians Club, or simply Old Christians, is a Uruguayan sports club from Carrasco, it is a neighbourhood of Montevideo. The club is known mostly for its rugby union team which became famous around the world due to the Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 crash that involved the first division team of the club in 1972. Old Christians amateur rugby team charted a Uruguayan Air Force plane to transport the team's players, friends, fans and family members to Santiago, Chile, for an exhibition match.
Tumblr media
It is Highlighted by one of the better plane crash scenes put to film in quite some time, Bayona, who also directed The Impossible (the criminally underseen survival pic about the extremely deadly 2004 tsunami), treats the audience to an immersive, detailed, and gritty look at how the young men who were eventually rescued from the icy slopes survived for nearly two months.
That's been dramatised many times before, most notably in 1993’s “Alive”, starring Ethan Hawke, but the director J. A. Bayona’s rendition may be the most immersive take yet.
Tumblr media
The crash scene is meticulously re-created—people being sucked out of the fuselage, bones shattering as the seats get ripped from the floor, bodies crumpling toward the cockpit. Most of the film takes place on the mountain range’s blinding snow-covered slopes, the victims’ skin bluish with frostbite, and the sound of howling winds incessantly. Almost every shot highlights the frigid, terrifying reality of what happened.
In my opinion, J.A.G. Bayona did an incredible job directing the film because I felt their stress and desperation, their fear and hope, and I feel this is one of those films that are a complete experience, one of those that makes you value everything you have and open your eyes. It’s a gruesome tale —the survivors eventually resorted to cannibalism— The survivors (and the not-lucky ones) became a life inspiration.
They wanted to live, they dreamed of living, they fought to live, they did EVERYTHING and more to achieve success, and thanks to those guts they wrote their story.
Tumblr media
Society of the Snow is the Definitive Account of the World’s Greatest Survival Story. Waiting for a rescue team that didn't arrive, the survivors became fewer and fewer in numbers. Stranded alone on a glacier, they had to face brutal temperatures, lethal avalanches and the loss of friends and family with no access to supplies, food or water. In order to survive, they had to do the unthinkable. It wasn't until seventy-two days later that they were able to reach safety.
Tumblr media
Eventually, two of the survivors – Nando Parrado and Roberto Canessa – were able to find help after embarking on an improbable hike into Chile, which took 10 days and saw them climb a 4,650-metre peak and travel 61km (37.9 miles) without any mountaineering gear.
Thanks to their efforts, the remaining team members were subsequently saved, and the incredible tale of survival became known as the Miracle of the Andes.
Tumblr media
The Survivors- Sipa/Shutterstock
To increase the film’s realism, director J.A. Bayona decided to film footage at the actual crash site in the Andes, El Valle de las Lágrimas, which translates to The Valley of Tears (the name the location received after the tragedy in Chile).
The film's filming locations spanned the Catalan city of Terrassa, the rugged Sierra Nevada mountains in Spain, and the formidable Andes mountains, adding to the cinematic allure of the survival tale.
Tumblr media
Society of the Snow appears to be a smash hit with both the critics and audiences, and is certainly one of the best Netflix films of recent times – it has a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score and 83% audience rating. If you haven't seen it yet, then I highly recommend you give it a go.
The Oscars are about to begin. The Dolby Theater in Los Angeles is already rolling out its red carpet.

@brian-in-finance Yeah! Survivors of the Andes (1976) (Supervivientes de los Andes ) was a Mexican film directed by René Cardona, based on the 1973 book Survive! by Clay Blair, which is based on the story of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571. The film received negative criticism, not a top budget film but still they could have put in a little more effort than what they did a very poorly done.

This is Trapp Family Chapel which is tucked up in the forest behind the Lodge in Stowe Vermont.
Here is the story behind the ‘Chapel in the Woods’:
After the Von Trapp family arrived in America and settled in Vermont, Werner Von Trapp joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in Europe with the 10th Mountain Division. He swore that if he survived the war he would build a chapel on their property in honor of his safe return. And he followed through on his promise to himself.
